“I CALLED THAT ROUND” - NONITO DONAIRE JR.

Las Vegas, NV -- Tonight at the post fight presscon, the new WBO-WBC Bantamweight Champion of the World, Nonito Donaire, Jr., told the media people gathered at the press room that he told people a while back he will stop Fernando Montiel in the second round and grab his belts.

“I called that round,” he said when asked if he was surprised that the fight ended so soon.

Donaire landed the same left hook that fell Vic Darchinyan and Volodymyr Siderenko to put Montiel flat on his back with legs moving as if he was having seizures. Time: 2:25 of round 2.

The effect of the flash left hook was so devastating that Montiel fell towards the ropes in his attempt to get up. It took a few seconds before he regained his feet but then everyone knew that the end is inevitable. Referee Russell Mora waved the fight off just a couple of seconds after Montiel regained his feet as it was obvious the fight was over at that point.

It took a while before people finally realized that what they saw really happened. The effect of the knock-out was so intense, it was shocking to see particularly up close from the ring apron.

Donaire also indicated at the presscon that he does not mind being number 2 to Manny Pacquiao. "Pacquiao opened the doors and we all followed," he said.

So what is next for the Filipino Flash? “I will let my manager Cameron Dunkin and my promoter decide,” Donaire indicated in reply to what his immediate plans are.

There were reports that Manny Pacquiao was in the building and was peeved that fight ended so quickly and he never got a chance to see it. Reports indicate that Pacquiao even took a private jet just to make it to Vegas, but he missed the whole thing on account of the quick knock-out.

DONAIRE KNOCKS OUT MONTIEL IN 2ND ROUND!

Moments ago, Filipino bantamweight Nonito Donaire, Jr. (pictured above) becomes a new boxing star and validates his No. 4 pound-for-pound ranking by knocking out the durable Fernando Montiel of Mexico at 2:25 of the second round and snatches the WBC and WBO bantamweight titles at the Mandalay Events Center in Las Vegas.

The first round saw Donaire displaying crisp punches and superior footwork to tag Montiel with good lefts and rights and easily took the round. Montiel however seemed to get his rhythm in the second round and hit Donaire with good right but Donaire almost simultaneously timed Montiel with a left cross that sent Montiel crushing to the canvas.

Montiel struggled to get up but clearly he was out of his senses but the referee allowed the fight to continue. Donaire immediately came to finish Montiel delivered a left that staggered Montiel towards the rope before the referee finally stopped the contest at 2:25 of the round.

With the electrifying performance, Donaire clearly has become one of the hottest properties of boxing next only to Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao and Argentina's Sergio Martinez.

Horoscope Hang-Up: Earth Rotation Changes Zodiac Signs

If you’re the type of person who relies on mysterious-sounding locations of stars to determine your personality and outcome in life, get ready to be shocked.

The field of astrology, which is concerned with horoscopes and the like, felt a major disruption from astronomers, who are concerned with actual stars and planets. The astronomers from the Minnesota Planetarium Society found that because of the moon’s gravitational pull on Earth, the alignment of the stars was pushed by about a month.

“When [astrologers] say that the sun is in Pisces, it’s really not in Pisces,” noted Parke Kunkle, a member of the group’s board. Your astrological sign is determined by the position of the sun on the day you were born, so that means everything you thought you knew about your horoscope is wrong.

It turns out that astrology has had issues from its inception. (Aside from the fact that it tries to link personality traits with positions of the stars.) Ancient Babylonians had 13 constellations, but wanted only 12, so threw out Ophuchicus, the snake holder. Libra didn’t even enter the picture until the era of Julius Caesar.

According to the Minnesota Planetarium Society, here is where the real signs of the Zodiac should fall. Get ready for your world to change forever.

Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16.
Aquarius: Feb. 16-March 11.
Pisces: March 11-April 18.
Aries: April 18-May 13.
Taurus: May 13-June 21.
Gemini: June 21-July 20.
Cancer: July 20-Aug. 10.
Leo: Aug. 10-Sept. 16.
Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30.
Libra: Oct. 30-Nov. 23.
Scorpio: Nov. 23-29.
Ophiuchus: Nov. 29-Dec. 17. (Yep, this one is new)
Sagittarius: Dec. 17-Jan. 20.

I know this is kinda old but this is for the sake of the others that didn't know this yet. Now you can see if your Zodiac sign had changed. :)

Former Defense Secretary Angelo Reyes has passed away due to a single gunshot wound to his chest in an apparent suicide, reports said.

In a press conference aired lived over QTV Channel 11, Health Secretary Enrique Ona said Reyes was declared dead on arrival at the Quirino Medical Center.

DzMM radio said Reyes was declared dead around 8:30 a.m.

News reports said Reyes shot himself at the Loyola Memorial Park, before his mother’s tomb. A book titled “Trump” was also seen near the body of Reyes.

Reyes was later rushed to the hospital with no blood pressure and no vital signs, said Ona.

Doctors tried to revive Reyes for some 45 minutes but failed.

“Hindi na maibalik heart rate. May gunshot wound sa left heart, external wound sa likod,” Ona said.

Reyes appeared to have committed suicide, amid the Congress probe on supposed massive corruption in the military.

Reyes is supposed to testify in Tuesday’s House of Representatives committee hearing.

Reyes was also former Secretary of Energy at the time of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Arroyo was among the first politicians seen at the hospital after reports of Reyes’ death.

In an earlier interview over dzMM radio, President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III has extended his condolences to the late defense secretary through his spokesman Ricky Carandang.

Reyes is survived by wife Teresita and sons, Pablo, Angelito, Marc, Carlo and Judd.

Nasdaq hit by hackers

The NASDAQ logo. The Nasdaq stock exchange said Saturday that hackers got into one of its computer systems, but that there was no evidence customer information or trading was compromised.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - – The Nasdaq stock exchange said hackers penetrated one of its computer systems, but that there was no evidence customer information or trading was compromised.

"Through our normal security monitoring systems we detected suspicious files on the US servers unrelated to our trading systems," said Frank DeMaria, spokesman for Nasdaq OMX Group Inc., parent company of the Nasdaq.

Nasdaq said its Internet-based Directors Desk, which allows publicly traded companies and their boards to communicate and exchange information online, was "potentially affected" by the breach, which was discovered at the end of last year, DeMaria said.

"The files were immediately removed and at this point there is no evidence that any Directors Desk customer information was accessed or acquired by hackers," DeMaria's statement continued.

Nasdaq's trading platform operates separately, "and at no point was any of Nasdaq OMX's operated or serviced trading platforms compromised," he said.

The US Department of Justice was notified and is investigating. A spokesman for the FBI declined to comment to AFP on Saturday.

Nasdaq said it also called in private forensic firms to assist its investigation.

US investigators had asked Nasdaq to keep the information from public view until at least February 14 "in order to facilitate the continuing investigation," Nasdaq said in its statement.

But Nasdaq, which had agreed to the request, decided to notify customers Saturday after the Wall Street Journal published a story about the hacking.

Cybersecurity expert Clifford Neuman, a professor at the University of Southern California, said there are "serious implications for such an intrusion." Hackers, he said, might have gained enough knowledge of the system to make the next step -- into the trading system.

"Compromise of this less critical system could give an adversary an opportunity to steal passwords, or take other steps to jump to the next more critical part of the system," said Neuman, director of USC's Center for Computer Systems Security.

Even without penetrating the trading system, he said, a hacker might be able to manipulate stock prices by having access to a company's information.

The targeted application is used by 10,000 board directors and company officials around the world, according to the website of Directors Desk, which is a subsidiary of Nasdaq OMX Group.

It boasts that confidential board information is safe because Directors Desk "incorporates state-of-the-art technology, processes and protocols to ensure the highest level of security."

Nasdaq OMX Group said it is "vigilant against such attacks."

"Cyber attacks against corporations and government occur constantly," DeMaria said. "We have been working in cooperation with the government's ongoing investigations and have received their technical advice for which we are appreciative."

Nasdaq OMX Group, with 3,600 listed companies, is the largest exchange company in the world. Companies traded on the Nasdaq stock market include Google and Yahoo Inc.

Yemen denies cyber-attacks on Saleh website

SANAA (AFP) - – Yemen has denied that the website of President Ali Abdullah Saleh -- the target of anti-government protests -- was brought down by hackers this past week, its official news agency said.

"An official in the ministry of communication and information technology denied reports claiming that the website of President Ali Abdullah Saleh was hacked" on Thursday, the Saba news agency said in a dispatch late Friday.

"The president's website, which is directed by Saba, has been operating normally round the clock and was not hacked."

AFP tried in vain to access Saleh's website (presidentsaleh.gov.ye) on Thursday following calls by a loose-knit group of global hackers known as Anonymous for attacks on the site.

The site was functioning as normal on Saturday.

Valleywag, a Silicon Valley blog owned by the Gawker network, said the cyber attacks on official Yemeni government websites had been dubbed "Operation Yemen" in Anonymous chat rooms.

Tens of thousands of Yemenis staged a "day of rage" in Sanaa on Thursday against Saleh, mirroring the ongoing protests in Cairo demanding the ouster of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
