“I CALLED THAT ROUND” - NONITO DONAIRE JR.

Las Vegas, NV -- Tonight at the post fight presscon, the new WBO-WBC Bantamweight Champion of the World, Nonito Donaire, Jr., told the media people gathered at the press room that he told people a while back he will stop Fernando Montiel in the second round and grab his belts.

“I called that round,” he said when asked if he was surprised that the fight ended so soon.

Donaire landed the same left hook that fell Vic Darchinyan and Volodymyr Siderenko to put Montiel flat on his back with legs moving as if he was having seizures. Time: 2:25 of round 2.

The effect of the flash left hook was so devastating that Montiel fell towards the ropes in his attempt to get up. It took a few seconds before he regained his feet but then everyone knew that the end is inevitable. Referee Russell Mora waved the fight off just a couple of seconds after Montiel regained his feet as it was obvious the fight was over at that point.

It took a while before people finally realized that what they saw really happened. The effect of the knock-out was so intense, it was shocking to see particularly up close from the ring apron.

Donaire also indicated at the presscon that he does not mind being number 2 to Manny Pacquiao. "Pacquiao opened the doors and we all followed," he said.

So what is next for the Filipino Flash? “I will let my manager Cameron Dunkin and my promoter decide,” Donaire indicated in reply to what his immediate plans are.

There were reports that Manny Pacquiao was in the building and was peeved that fight ended so quickly and he never got a chance to see it. Reports indicate that Pacquiao even took a private jet just to make it to Vegas, but he missed the whole thing on account of the quick knock-out.
